There are Hollywood celebrities, of course. There are the song writers whose lyrics and melodies we never forget, but whose names we often do. There are the scientists who help define and measure our world. Their names come up when there are earthquakes, astronomical events or medical advances. There are the barrier breakers — in sports, human rights, politics and literature.
Cemeteries are also records of a community’s history. History books describe events. Cemeteries mark the lives of those who put the events in motion. Los Angeles cemeteries are places to find inspiration, heroes, the dreamers, the doers and the creators.
Some of our favorite cemeteries are:
- Forest Lawn, Glendale
- Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, Los Angeles
- Home of Peace and its Chapel Mausoleum, Boyle Heights
- Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City
- Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum, Altadena
- Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth
- Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park and Mortuary, North Hollywood
- Pierce Brothers Westwood, Westwood
- Rosedale Cemetery, Los Angeles
